Designing research assignments that include information gathering?

Instructors!  Kathy Crowe would like to remind you that there is a "Research Assignment Toolkit" with
  • advice on designing assignments
  • services that librarians can provide for you

Jackson Library Display Cases

Kathy Crowe would like to remind UNCG groups outside the library that you can reserve library display cases:

Jackson Library has several display cases that student and campus organizations and offices may reserve to display information about your group or specific events.  Over 1 million people walk through the Library each year so it's a great place to advertise!

Click here for more information and to reserve a case.

NEW LOOK for our Journal List coming in August!

In August, the Journal A to Z list from the library is getting a facelift and new search features!

To preview this system, follow this link: http://uncg.on.worldcat.org/atoztitles/search#journal

The system will look different, but you'll still be able to search for journals and newspapers and magazines by title.

1. Type the title of your journal, magazine or newspaper then hit the Search button.

If you type the words out of order, you won't find the journal. Try changing your search from "starts with" to "match all words."

If you misspell a word, you won't find the journal.

2. IF there is more than one choice for online full text, look for the choice that includes the years that you want. Click the journal title link to enter that journal.

If you are off-campus, you will be asked to log in with your iSpartan (UNCG email) user name and password.

Note: the collection link will lead you into all journals that we get from that vendor.

3. You should be taken to the publisher page where you can access all articles within the date range that was summarized in "coverage" for this journal.

Moving from Web of Science to Scopus

We're moving from Web of Science (subscription expires June 30th) to  Scopus (should have access in a week).

Scopus indexes twice as many titles as Web of Science, and includes over 99% of the titles that are indexed by the Web of Science.

Journal Citation Reports will expire with Web of Science, but many faculty currently use Google Scholar and Eigenfactor for citation analysis.

We plan to create a research guide for assistance with these sources.  We also plan to create a guide to Scopus and will offer training as needed.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact your liaison librarian, or Beth Bernhardt (brbernha@uncg.edu) or Tim Bucknall (bucknall@uncg.edu)
