You should have gotten this email message from campus ITS. 

In case you didn't have time to read between the lines on this - campus web pages (including the library!!) will be unavailable from 12 am until noon on Saturday June 4th. 

Planned Downtime for All Campus Network, Internet and Voice Services | Saturday, June 4 | 12:0a.m. - 12:00 noon

 

Who: All users of campus network, internet and voice services

What: Planned downtime for all campus network, internet and voice services (including IP phones)

When: Saturday, June 4,12:01 a.m. – 12:00 noon

Why: Information Technology Services (ITS) will be replacing core data center infrastructure on Saturday, June 4, between 12:01 am and 12:30 noon.

During this downtime, major campus services — including UNCGenie, Banner, Canvas, UNCG websites, computer logins, internet access, and voice services* — will be unavailable. 

iSpartan email will continue to be available (from off campus) during this time.

OCLC downtime June 4-5: Catalog, Journal List, Check for Full Text links

All OCLC services will be unavailable from 9:00 pm Saturday, 4 June 2016, to 12:00 pm (noon) Sunday, 5 June 2016, Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) US (UTC -4).  The company is planning data storage migration.

These are some of the OCLC services at UNCG Libraries:

• the library catalog and red search box
• check for full text links from article databases out to journal subscriptions
• the journal A to Z list
• online book renewal

Library access after graduation

Congratulations to graduating students!

Yes, you can still use the UNCG Libraries after you graduate. Please note, on May 4th checkout privileges expire for students graduating this semester.  

Please visit us!

• Alumni and visitors can use most print/physical resources while in the building
• Friends of the Library membership includes checkout privileges for some items (sorry, no ILL service or off campus access to subscriptions) 

What about online resources?

• Off campus access to library accounts expires after graduation.  See ITS info on account expiration: https://its.uncg.edu/Accounts/Expire
• Jackson Library has guest computers with access to most online subscriptions

 Don't forget to explore your other libraries!

Forum on Saving Students Money on Textbooks Weds 3/23, 3 pm

Next week the University Libraries and the campus Scholarly Communication Committee is sponsoring a forum:




This event will give faculty a chance to discuss their experiences in assigning free or library-licensed sources instead of requiring students to purchase textbooks.

This event is open to instructors and students.  Heck, if you're support services (instructional technologists?) or another interested party, please come!  There will be refreshments!!

Undergraduate Research Award 2016

Dear faculty:

The University Libraries want to recognize your students' research skills!

We are soliciting submissions for our Undergraduate Research Award.  This $500 prize is given in recognition of an outstanding undergraduate research project that best demonstrates the ability to locate, select, and synthesize information from scholarly resources and uses those resources in the creation of an original research project in any media. 

Any paper or project completed by an undergraduate in the Spring, Summer, or Fall semesters of 2015 is eligible. Applicants must be enrolled at UNCG in the Spring 2016 semester.  It is open to all undergraduate students. 

 If your students have turned in excellent research assignments, we urge you to nominate them for this award.
