Online students - virtual advisory board or virtual interview participation for a gift card

Hi all,

Sam Harlow, UNCG Libraries' Online Learning Librarian, has asked me to share this invitation -

As an online student or student taking an online course, have you ever wanted to let your university know what you really want and need in your online course experience?  Here is your chance! We are asking students who take online classes or are enrolled in online programs to join a UNCG virtual advisory board or perform an virtual interview to give us your feedback.  While participation is completely voluntary, responses will help us help you. Everyone participating in these online focus group will receive a $10 Barnes & Noble gift card.

The data shared from these advisory groups and virtual meetings will be in aggregate and anonymous form.  Individual responses with identities will only be viewed by the investigators and focus group facilitator on this research and all potential identifiers, including IP address, will not be associated with results.  Data will be stored securely in Webex and Box. Other risks are not greater than those experienced from regular computer use. Benefits include the improvement of UNCG university services and resources available to distance and online students, as well as improved outreach and marketing of new resources.

If you are interested in joining one of these advisory groups, please fill out this form:
Someone from this group will contact you about scheduling times to meet as an advisory group after you fill out this form.

Thank you for your time!

Samantha (Sam) Harlow, UNCG University Libraries

Librarians - free online education from the NNLM - Wellness in the Library Workplace

As a library worker, what are you doing to manage your own well-being? Individual and community well-being are inherently connected. Thus, it is critical that workplaces be an area of wellness for their employees. Join us to discover ways to improve your own personal well-being and create a healthy workplace.

If you are a supervisor, how are you helping to ensure your staff stays healthy (physically, emotionally, etc.)? We will also discuss ways to increase overall wellness for all staff in libraries so that we have happy, healthy and safe work environments.

In this 2-week 4-CE online course participants will explore the aspects of a healthy workplace including physical, mental, and emotional components...

-Asynchronous course runs May 20, 2019 to Jun 2, 2019 but no set number of hours required each week

NNLM webinar takeaway - City Health Dashboard

Gotta love the free trainings from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine!

My favorite takeaway from the Health Statistics session today = City Health Dashboard
  • Goal "to provide city leaders with an array of regularly refreshed data to support health-related decision-making"
  • 37 health indicators for the 500 largest U.S. cities
  • Includes Greensboro

Some indicators, like Park Access, have demographic details. Scroll down the page to look for demographic.

Behold the Earth - sustainability film screening tonight, Thurs 2/28/2019

Message from Sarah Dorsey about a Sustainability Film and Discussion event this evening  -

We will be screening Behold The Earth at 6:30 this Thursday, February 28 in the Sullivan Science Building, Room 101.

About the film:

Rachel Carson’s book Silent Spring invigorated the U.S. environmental movement in the 1960s, inspiring rising young scientists like Pulitzer Prize winner E.O. Wilson, Cal DeWitt, and Theo Colborn. Many of these scientists were also raised as evangelicals, part of America’s most influential faith community of the last 75 years. Today, a new generation of scientists and evangelicals are coming of age—people like Katharine Hayhoe, Ben Lowe, and Corina Newsome. Can these emerging leaders reduce the human degradations of our earth? Can they revive the reach and relevance of America’s evangelical and environmental movements? Film director and conservationist David Conover began this film 12 years ago as an inquiry into America’s divorce from the outdoors. Four time Grammy-award winning musician Dirk Powell leads arrangements of traditional American tunes and hymns, with Rhiannon Giddens and Tim Eriksen, and Dirk’s daughters Sophie and Amelia.

Leading our post screening discussion will be Rev. Audra Abt, Missionary Vicar, Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit (and) North Greensboro Mission Developer.
